Hunting and fishing in Russia


For those who are interested in hunting or fishing in Russia the following information might be very useful.

Your Accommodations

The accommodations will vary, depending on the hunting area and the game you choose to hunt. In the European part of the country you would usually stay in a comfortable hunting lodge with running water, electricity, cell phone tower nearby, sometimes internet access, hot shower and indoor toilet, making it ideal for a family vacation. In most of the lodges hunters are expected to share one bedroom between two people. Many lodges offer meals prepared by professional cooks, who would usually offer local wild game meat, birds and fish, mushrooms, wild berries and other delicacies, plus a choice of less exiting food, including cereals, vegetables, fruits cheese and sausage. In remote areas of the country, like in Siberia, living conditions can range from a tent camp to a rustic log hut, to a farmhouse. Most of the base camps would have a sauna Private chef, select wines and gourmet food items such as caviar can be provided with prior notification at additional cost.

Firearm Import

There are no problems bringing your rifle or shotgun into Russia. Handguns are not allowed. But some necessary formalities to obtain the permits are to be followed. This may take up to two months and will require informing about the make, model, serial number and a caliber of the weapon. You are allowed to bring 2 firearms and 100 rounds of ammunition for each weapon. Lead shot is permitted on all waterfowl hunts. Shells for waterfowl hunts can be bought in Russia. The gun permit is to be presented at the airport. We can help you to find those people in Russia who are able to assist with permission receipt and other formalities at the airport. According to Russian regulations your Russian host is responsible for temporary imported firearm and his name will also be placed on a firearm import permit.

Crossing the Border

You will need a valid passport and a Russian visa to enter and exit the country with at least 3 months left prior to the expiration date.
