Russian Travel Routes: Kola Peninsula

Perhaps, this is the most mysterious northern region of  Russia. The peninsula was totally covered by the ice for several thousands of years and after the ice melted here 100 000 lakes and 18 000 rivers were formed.

Snow covers the Kola Peninsula all through the year, and when summer comes the temperature goes up to +10°С. Most of the time it is cloudy on the peninsula and only 28 days a year are sunny.

If you would travel to the Kola Peninsula you could meet several different geographic zones – wooded tundra, tundra, forests and swamps.

Sights of Kola Peninsula
-           Barguza village, where famous Uspenska church is located (it was built without any hobnail)
-           Kirovsk city, famous skiing center in Russia
-           Lapland Biosphere Reserve
-           Lake Seydozero, the old civilizations are hidden in the water of this lake, as the legends of locals say .
-           Mogilno Lake which origin is still a secret. The lake consists of layers of fresh and salt water that are never mixed.
-           Waterfalls at the Chapoma and Chavinga rivers.
