Moscow-Saint-Petersburg transport possibilities for tourists

Here's a precious tip for those who would like to visit Saint Petersburg and is in Moscow (or vice versa). There are several transport possibilities for that.

First of all you can take a plane. The cost of air ticket from Moscow to St.Pete is
approximately the same as a train ticket. It'll take less than 2 hours to go by plane. So if you are a transit passenger going through one of Moscow airports you can check this possibility in advance and not waste your time in traffic jams going to train station for example.

Second variant is to go by bus which will take about 10-12 hours. But of course this is the cheapest option. The buses to St.Pete go from several bus stations (Shchelkovskii autostation, Kazanskii station) and metro stations (Voykovskaya, Rechnoy vokzal, Krasnogvardeyskaya, Planernaya, Skhodnenskaya). You need to check the schedule in advance. The cost is 1000 rubles (14euro)* approximately.

Another transport possibility is train. It seems to be the best variant for me personally as the train arrives directly to the city center. So you don't need to take a bus or taxi from the airport. Nowadays there are two types of train possible: high speed train (going 8 hours) and express train called Sapsan (going ~4 hours). I would choose Sapsan as it is the fastest and you can save some money for the journey in case you buy a ticket 60 days before the trip. You can follow tickets sell start and buy one for ~1500 rubles (20euro)*. The closer to the date the more expensive the tickets are. For example, if you buy a ticket from Moscow to St.Pete for tomorrow the cheapest will be 6355 rubles (84euro)*

The most expensive, the longest but at the same time the most pleasant is river cruise during which you can enjoy the smaller towns, villages and views of Russia.

I hope this information will help you to choose the best variant for you. If you have any questions please ask here or in our English speaking group in Facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/FriRusEnglishSpeaking/
