Pskov is an old town where you can see with your own eyes the development of Rus.
Pskov chronicles state that Pskov ancient settlement appeared in 862. The first inhabitants – Slavs descendants – settled here on the place of the two rivers fusion - Velikaya and Pskova. So, as you see the town got its name after the river Pskova.
The Baltic Sea is close to Pskov which was the main reason of numerous fights of the Slavs with the Varangians who intended to set a free way to the Baltic Sea.
Ancient Pskov cathedrals have a unique and significant architecture. You can find here ancient parks, fortresses, estates and chapels. Pskov pictorial art is known all over the world. Icons and mural paintings are the real treasure of the Russian land.
You should visit Pskov if you are interested in history. There are many routes you can choose: Kremlin and Daumantas (Dovmont) town, WWII military glory, Zapskoviye (one of the main streets in Pskov), Pogankin Palace, Menshikov Palace and many others.
There are many attractive sights in Pskov region. If you are interested in literature especially Russian one then you know Alexander Pushkin. His memorial museum Mikhailovskoye is situated in Pushkinogorsky district of Pskov region.
